Videos With My Daughter Tanya

Tanya sings and Rudy plays "Ich weiss nicht was soll es bedeuten", an old
German folk song about the Lorelei, the young beauty sitting on a rock by
the Rhine river, combing her golden hair and distracting the fishermen going
by on their boats. Modern text by the poet Heinrich Heine.  Also translated
into English by Mark Twain during his trip to Germany and recorded in his
book "A Tramp Abroad". This recording was made in 1991 when Tanya
was 10 years old. See further below in this post for Tanya playing a Menuet

Die schoenste Jungfrau sitzet	The loveliest maiden is sitting
dort oben wunderbar;	high-throned in yon blue air.
ihr goldnes Geschmeide blitzet,	Her golden jewels are shining,
sie kaemmt ihr goldenes Haar.	she combs her golden hair.
Sie kaemmt es mit goldenem Kamme,	She combs with a comb that is golden,
und singt ein Lied dabei;	and sings a weird refrain
das hat eine wundersame,	that steeps in a deadly enchantment
gewaltige Melodei.	the list'ner's ravished brain.
Dem Schiffer im kleinen Schiffe	The doomed in his drifting shallop
ergreift es mit wildem Weh.	is tranced with the sad sweet tone.
Er schaut nicht die Felsenriffe,	He sees not the yawning breakers,
er schaut nur hinauf in die Hoeh.	he sees but the maid alone.
Ich glaube die Wellen verschlingen	The pitiless billows engulf him !
am Ende Schiffer und Kahn.	So perish sailor and bark.
Und das hat mit ihrem Singen	And this, with her baleful singing,
